Steve Jobs Says YouTube = Blu-Ray

Well, not exactly in those words, but Steve ("Y'all gonna love the magical iPad.") Jobs, in a rare reply to an email inquiry about why Apple has not put Blu-ray HD in Mac computers, proclaims that YouTube is as good as Blu-ray for HD video distribution (reported by 9To5Mac website).

I get what he was trying to say. Of course, he's not saying YouTube HD videos look as sharp as Blu-ray HD when shown on a big-screen TV or monitor, but rather that YouTube HD will be popular enough of a standard for regular people or Hollywood to present their videos to the masses.

This is a serious endorsement of YouTube from a man who rarely endorses any product not associated with Apple.

The same video on Sundroid channel is a highly-compressed version suitable for viewing on a tiny screen. I shot the footage back in 2007 when I just started to use Apple's video editing software and was experimenting with various ways of "exporting" the finished video. This high-quality version is more than 200MB, a whopper of a file back in those days, and exceeded YouTube's limit of 100MB. Nowadays, YouTube allows one to upload videos up to 2GB. The speed of tech advancement never ceases to amaze me. By the way, this song is a rare duet by Gwyneth Paltrow and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds.
